Milestone for Fife Alliance

The Fife Housing Association Alliance celebrated an historic milestone on Tuesday 24 June with the completion of its first development.

The unveiling of 34 homes in Rosyth in a £3.75million project marked the first completion by the Alliance, a partnership between the four Fife-based Housing Associations, who, as the preferred developer of Fife Council and the Scottish Government, build all new housing association properties in the region.

The project was developed in partnership with Fife Council, who originally owned the land and £2.2m in grant support was provided by the Scottish Government.

Situated on Castle Road, Rosyth, 28 of the new homes will be available for affordable rent, while the remaining six will be for sale through the low cost ownership scheme, Homestake.

Developed by Kingdom Housing Association, the scheme will be owned and managed by Fife Housing Association.

Lorna Paterson, Chairperson of Fife Housing Association, said:  “Fife Housing Association is delighted with the project at Boyle Drive which has delivered high quality energy efficient homes which have been designed to reduce tenants running costs as far as possible.  This is the first Alliance project where our partner Kingdom Housing Association has developed the houses and I anticipate it being the first of many.”

Councillor Brian Goodall, Chair of Fife Council's Housing & Communities Committee, said:  “It's great to see these affordable homes for rent being delivered here in Rosyth by the Fife Housing Association Alliance and I'm delighted that they are going to be managed by Fife Housing Association, given their long standing relationship with the Rosyth community.

“Rosyth is one of the many areas in Fife with a very high level of need for affordable housing and Fife Council is delighted to have been able to play our part in providing these homes. Developments like this are just one of the ways we intend to improve access to affordable homes across Fife.

“In the future, a mixture of new Housing Association properties, shared ownership schemes and new build Council Housing will all be available to those in housing need in Fife.”

Construction got underway in April 2007, and Dunfermline-based Campion Homes recently completed construction work on the scheme, designed by architects Oliver & Robb.

The homes range from amenity cottages and wheelchair-designed homes, to three and four-bed affordable family houses.

David Chalmers, Chairman at Kingdom Housing Association, said:  “The Fife HA Alliance is proving to be a very successful partnership model for the delivery of affordable housing in Fife, and the Rosyth project is an excellent example of a high quality affordable housing project.”

Mr Chalmers also went on to thank all the partners who had been involved in the process, particularly Fife Council, and hoped the Alliance partnership could be developed further to meet the growing needs for affordable housing in Fife.

The Alliance, which consists of Kingdom Housing Association, Fife Housing Association, Ore Valley Housing Association and Glen Housing Association, is currently a building more than 200 homes across Fife, including a £2.25m scheme in Whitehall Drive, Cardenden, to build 20 new homes, and a £4.5m development at Linburn Road, Dunfermline, to build 38 new homes.
