How Do I

Apply for housing benefit

Housing Benefit is a national scheme that is run through local councils, to help those on a low income pay their rent.

If you are on a low income at the moment, for whatever reason, you may qualify. To apply you will need to fill in an application form, which we can provide, or which you can pick up at any of Fife Council's offices.

Once you've filled the application in you can return it to Fife Council along with all of the documents asked for on the Benefit form or you can bring everything to us and we'll check it with you and return it on your behalf.

I'm already on Income Support - do I need to fill out another form?

Yes. Whatever benefits you receive, you will have to fill out a separate form to claim Housing Benefit. If you need help, contact your Housing Officer or Benefits Officer.

Where can I get help?

A Duty Housing Officer is always available to answer your questions during working hours. All our Housing Officers are trained in assessment and procedures for obtaining benefit, and will deal with enquiries sympathetically and confidentially.

Keep us informed

If your circumstances change, the amount of rent you pay may be affected. Because Fife Council don't tell Fife Housing Association of any claim for benefit that you might make, we recommend telling your Fife Housing Association Housing Officer about any claim so that you don't lose out.
